Spectral Emissions and Light Energy Lab Activity for Chemistry using Glow Sticks
Spectral Emissions and Light Energy Lab Activity for Chemistry using Glow Sticks
Couldn't load pickup availability
In this activity, students can have some Halloween fun in chemistry class! Students measure the emission spectra from glow sticks and calculate the energy they give off. It's a simple "chemical free" way to do a classic spectral emissions lab, without using an expensive spectral tube set up, or breaking out the Bunsen burner.
WHAT'S INCLUDED?
- 1 lab activity: measuring the energy emitted from glow sticks using their emission spectra
- Answer Key
- Google Sheets Calculator, so you don't have to do every calculation for every found wavelength to make a unique key
MATERIALS NEEDED
- Glow sticks (any color or size you like)
- Spectroscopes
- Calculators
- A dark classroom
FEATURES
- "Chemical Free" lab activity
- Get your students to see spectral lines and emissions from everyday objects
- Students can practice their calculations using Planck's constant with a simple lab activity
WHO IS IT FOR?
This lesson is perfect for a first year high school chemistry class, or physical science class.
